Years ago something happened to me that changed my life forever.

I was a freshman in high school playing tight end on the football team. Then, without warning, during a game, as I jumped to catch a pass, a player from the opposing team smashed his helmet in the small of my back. Immediately, I knew something wasn’t right. I started to develop back pain. The medical doctors gave me pain pills and said it would eventually go away, but it didn’t. The pain was so intense, it didn’t go away for 7 years. I continued playing football in high school and just lived with the pain, like most athletes do. I even got a football scholarship to play football at Texas A&M University.

Healthcare Education

Then, something happened that changed my life forever – I decided to pursue a career in healthcare. I first went to massage therapy school to see if I could learn how to help other people in pain. After massage school, I debated whether or not to apply for medical school or chiropractic college. After talking with several medical doctors and chiropractors, I decided to choose chiropractic college because the idea of the chiropractors “helping the body heal itself naturally” impressed me. I never saw chiropractors when I was growing up, as my mother was a nurse in a hospital, and only took me to see the medical doctors she worked for. Because I was so unfamiliar with chiropractors, they intrigued me.

Chiropractic College

I knew I had made the right decision in my career path after my first adjustment while attending Texas Chiropractic College. When I started under chiropractic care, I began feeling relief for the first time in 7 years! I was amazed. I could finally walk around the grocery store without having to sit down. Looking back, it is clear to me that going to chiropractic college was the turning point in my life.

My Wife’s Chiropractic Story

Now my wife, Michelle, has a different story. She always had severe pain from a pinched nerve in her neck, but despite all her efforts, the pain remained. However, me being a student of chiropractic when we met didn’t score me any points because she said, “I’m afraid of chiropractors.” I just think she said that because she didn’t want to be the guinea pig for my practice adjustments when I was in chiropractic college.

As our relationship grew, she began to trust me and was willing to give chiropractic a try. She will tell you that it has changed her life. Being able to live headache free, the numbness in her hand has disappeared and the neck pain has decreased tremendously. Now she knows enough to ask me to adjust her when she feels like she may be getting sick, or sometimes after a hard day at work.

Living the Chiropractic Lifestyle

Getting wonderful health results like that with my wife, it did not take any convincing for me to adjust our two children when they were born. In fact, my wife instructed that I adjust them when they were each only 2 days old. Ever since then, their entire lives, they have been getting their regular maintenance adjustments, which I truly believe has allowed them to avoid many of the sicknesses that the other children in their daycare classes have experienced.

It’s strange how life is, because now others come to see me with their health problems, which include: headaches, migraines, chronic pain, lower back pains, neck pains, shoulder/arm pains, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, constipation, heartburn, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, just to name a few.
